On Craftsmanship

A Message for the New Home Buyer from Chuck Ackerman

"I am no less than passionate about my craft, which is why I personally drive a nail or three into every home we build.  I've done it for a long time, and because of that I feel a personal connection with every family, every home.  You see, building a house is a science.  There is a particular way to frame a wall which is right, and many ways to do it wrong.  There is a certain way to install siding, mount cabinetry, lay carpet, and every other activity that goes into building a house.  Building a home, however, is a craft.  We must look now not only at the proper ways to do all the things we have to do to build the house, we must also see the difference between the house and the home, and that is that the home belongs to a family.  With this added element, we are not just piecing together the building blocks of a structure, we are laying the foundation for a lifetime of memories.  Because of that family,  a floor is no longer just some vinyl, nails, and wood, but maybe the future site of baby's first steps, or perhaps it will be where the embarrassing picture is taken just before the Senior Prom.  Maybe it will be both.  In any event it will be trod upon at the beginning and end of each day by a family with hopes and dreams, fears and apprehensions, security and love.  Just like my family.  If you'd like to talk to someone who can build you such a home, give me a call.  I don't build houses."
